DESCRIPTION OF CONFERENCE & WINTER SCHOOL

The International Conference and Winter School on “Molecular Materials and Functions” are a series of events organized by IIT Madras. These events are part of the activities of the Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Molecular Materials and Functions, a cluster within the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), which is recognized as one of the premier academic institutes in India and designated as an ‘Institute of Eminence’ by the Government of India to promote excellence in higher education and research.

The indicated international conference is a biennial event, with the first edition held in December 2022 and the second edition scheduled for December 9-11, 2024. The primary objective of the conference is to provide a platform for discussing molecular materials and their associated functions, focusing on molecules as the fundamental building blocks rather than atoms. By exploring the chemical, physical, and mechanical properties of such materials, breakthrough results in the emergence of new properties in matter are anticipated, along with gaining fundamental insights into reactivity, catalysis, electrical transport, magnetism, and energy storage, in the foreseeable future.

The CoE Winter School on “Molecular Materials and Functions” is an annual event aimed at benefiting students and postdoctoral fellows by providing opportunities to learn from cutting-edge research experts and fostering informal networking with leaders in the field. Many of the distinguished speakers participating in the international conference will also deliver talks at the Winter School, along with several experts from within the country. The first edition of the Winter School series took place in December 2023, and the second edition is scheduled for December 4-8, 2024.
